Yesterday I did not have the time to post the diary because I created a page for our Guest Speaker this day, “Greg’s Talk”, which you can check out above. It includes pics with Greg’s slides, so you remember the points he raised, and also pics of the notes I took as he spoke, for your language work (LW). I hope you ask me in class if these notes pose questions.
We started the lesson with announcements, as usual: that I had reorganized the classroom physically and the Evaluación Continua notebook is now at the back, on top of our new piece of furniture where you can see the books and TV series you can borrow; and blog updates which include a new writing task (check out the comments on Writing File above, if you missed the post, to find the link to it), and then moved on to listening to María Luisa speaking on the card devoted to Functional Translation examples, in the C1 Resource Pack. I also mentioned there was a great card in Section 2, with a list of the resources you should be using: Writing File, Speaking File, lists of UL and LoM, learning logs or diaries… María Luisa did a great job presenting the card, because she also related it to our LW with the Mary Poppins worksheet on Functional Translation. ❤
We had a fun improvised activity suggested by Gonzalo around the word “pick up”, because after reviewing its different meanings I brought up “Pick up lines”! So we checked out some, which were illustrative, and illustrative also of the fact that they tend to be very sexist (it’s mostly men with no feminist intelligence writing them out) and cheesy.
Nobody asked about “cheesy”, which is not an easy word to learn because you need to think in English and not in its very many different translations into Spanish to grasp its meaning. So I presume that in spite of being EFL learners you’re in the know! 😀
We had lots of participation with questions and comments, and then Greg arrived. He did an amazing job. He had prepared a slide presentation with very interesting content, and he was fun to listen to, too! We really appreciated his talk and thanks him enthusiastically for his work! ❤
Next day you need to tell me about your proposals for next week, remember, OK? And then we’ll listen to any orals you might have prepared and we’ll be starting with the TV series project – Friends 1×1, working on language, so that in December we can have some Dramatized Readings -we might videoshoot if people agree and fill out / in the form giving me permission to publish those videos on the English Departament Youtube Video Channel.
